Self Care Plan for Moms

self care plan for moms

As moms, it’s so easy to focus all of our time and energy on our families. There’s always so much more to be done, which means we often make our own needs a low priority. Many of us even have bathrooms filled with beauty and pampering supplies that just sit there collecting dust!

But the old cliche is true: You have to put on your own oxygen mask before helping others. The best way to be the BEST mom is to make sure you are healthy mentally, emotionally, and physically. But without intentional planning, mom’s self care won’t happen!

Pick Your Priorities

Think about your personality and what brings you joy. What would you do if you had a free day or weekend? Every person’s interests and motivations are different. You might not care about getting a manicure, but you’d love to sit outside and admire nature while sipping coffee (Hot coffee! Not microwaved coffee!). Or you might absolutely love curling your hair, thrifting, or dare I say, taking a nap! An easy way I can bring joy to my life is simply to have a good-smelling home. I love this essential oil brand because it’s a non-toxic way to create a calm atmosphere- and it’s a small business with free shipping!

Take a moment to really evaluate what self care looks like for you. Write down your top priorities and what would improve your life.

Make Health a Priority

You might not have time (or a babysitter) to go to the gym for an hour a day. But we can all agree that physical health is vital to living a long and happy life! Consider what easy, quick changes you can make to your lifestyle. This gallon-sized water bottle has markings to encourage you to drink lots each day, and this protein powder is a great low-carb breakfast or lunch (when you might have resorted to unhealthy processed meals on a crazy day).

The best change I made in 2021 was taking a quality probiotic. I’ve struggled with digestion and gut bloat BIG time, and I’m absolutely shocked at how flat my stomach is, and how improved my digestion has gotten in less than 2 months. I take Seed’s Daily Synbiotic (probiotic/prebiotic combo) and you can use code HIPSTERMAMA15 for 15% off! I also started taking biotin as an easy way to improve my hair, skin, and nails, and of course I take a quality multivitamin and Vitamin D. It takes me 30 seconds to take my pills each night, but it’s having a huge impact on my mood and physical health!

Plan a Nighttime Routine

If you’re anything like me, you have lots of beauty products that have been gifted to you throughout the years. They look nice and the benefits sound nice, but by the time you talk yourself into actually washing your face before collapsing into bed, you’re definitely not going to take the extra time to apply eye creams and cuticle treatments. I recently started getting ready for bed as soon as my kids go to bed, even though I’ll be staying up for a couple more hours. This ensures that I stay committed to my nighttime routine. I can now also avoid that 11pm procrastination where I just stare at the TV for 30 minutes because I don’t want to wash my face. 😉 Nobody else? Ok cool.

While we’re at it, go to bed earlier!! (Telling this to myself.)

Put Yourself on the Schedule

We schedule all sorts of important things, blocking out time to make them happen. Put a weekly appointment in your schedule to pamper yourself and do some self care. Maybe it’s a mud mask, maybe it’s a walk in the park. Either way, you’re making yourself a priority, which will actually help you work better and faster during the rest of the week!

Here’s some of the products and cool tools I have my eyes on to use during my self care appointments:
