Best Nursing-Friendly Dresses for Postpartum

Best Nursing-Friendly Dresses

After having a baby, I was completely overwhelmed- and finding cute breastfeeding outfits felt impossible! I spent many days in spit-up-covered t-shirts and pajama pants, but I missed feeling stylish and put together. Here’s some of my favorite easy, nursing-friendly dresses for fall and all year long!

Best Nursing-Friendly Dresses

First of all, you gotta know that I LOVE dresses. They are so flattering and easy, and I was legitimately so sad during my first postpartum experience because I couldn’t wear dresses and breastfeed! But the second time around was a game-changer because I found dresses that are designed for breastfeeding, like this one from Undercover Mama!! There is an inner layer that attaches to your nursing bra, so all you have to do is pull one layer down and one up. Much better than yanking the entire dress up, lol! And IT HAS POCKETS! I still wear mine even though I’m done nursing. That tells you that it’s GOT to be cute and comfy!! They’ve got other breastfeeding-friendly dresses, too- click here to check their selection out, and click here for a direct link to my dress.

Strapless Nursing Tank Top

The other absolute game-changer from Undercover Mama is their tank top. Seriously, I am about to CHANGE your life. Without this tank, one of two things usually happens:

1. To nurse, you pull your entire shirt up, making you feel pretty exposed

2. You wear a nursing tank AND a supportive nursing bra, which means you have to mess with two different clasps while trying to nurse a screaming baby

Not pleasant. BUT, this tank doesn’t have straps, and attaches directly to your nursing bra. You only have to pull one thing down, and you feel covered even if you are pulling your shirt up.

Seriously, this is the secret weapon. And it’s the best gift, because so many moms don’t even know it exists. It even helps hold in that postpartum skin that hasn’t tightened up yet.

I could go on. 😉 Click here to check it out! They offer free exchanges, so it’s one of the easier places to shop online.

Now that I’m done gushing (and it’s not even sponsored… I just love them that much!), here are some other tips for buying nursing-friendly outfits:

1. You don’t need as much as you think you do.
There is a whole industry behind breastfeeding-friendly shirts that have two layers, but ANY shirt can be a breastfeeding-friendly shirt! If you have a tank like the one above, you can literally pull any shirt up to nurse in. The only clothing that helps to buy specifically nursing-friendly is dresses. Of course, there are some cute shirts out there with two layers, so I’m totally not judging if you treat yourself! 😉

2. Material is important. You ARE going to get milk dribbles on your outfit. So it’s good to stay away from finicky or expensive material that requires dry cleaning or could be permanently stained. (Pro tip: Rub Dawn dish soap directly onto the stain to break up the milk fat.)

3. Do NOT guilt yourself into just “surviving” and not spending money on this season. Nursing can last a long time!! You are worth it- plus you’re saving so much by not purchasing formula. And most breastfeeding dresses can be worn as regular dresses for years to come!

I spent some time rounding up some of the cutest nursing dresses for you! Click the links below each image to shop online. I would be sooooo thrilled if you’d share this with your mama friends!

Another thing I wish I had taken advantage of during postpartum is subscription boxes/personal stylist services. You don’t leave the house that often, so things like Stitch Fix and Nordstrom’s Trunk Club are pretty convenient. Of course, since Amazon and Pink Blush offer free returns, they are favorites here too!
