Activated Charcoal Benefits – Absorbing Odors Naturally!

You see this face? This is the face of a mom who finds 4 month old leftovers hiding in the back of the fridge. And chicken nuggets from last year underneath the kids’ car seats. Parenting STINKS, you guys. I don’t like simply covering up nasty scents with chemicals and flowery scents. That doesn’t fix the problem. And it’s a BIG ole problem.

Lucky for you and me, activated charcoal bags are here to save the day by naturally absorbing odors!

(FYI, basicConcepts sponsored this post so I could share my honest thoughts with you! Hopefully you know me enough to know that Mama doesn’t sell out. You’ve gotta be pretty fantastic to be featured!)

basicConcepts’ bamboo activated charcoal bags are an all-natural, discreet, and pet-safe way to absorb odors. They’re affordable and last 2 years!!

We’ve been working hard to reduce chemicals and toxins in our home. I’ve been intrigued by activated charcoal forever and have dabbled with it for beauty and absorbing toxins from the body. So when I learned about bags of activated charcoal blocks that absorb odors naturally, I knew this was a perfect solution for our home.

To “charge” the bags, you set them in the sun for 2 hours. Then they’re good for a full month of odor absorption! 4 weeks later, just set them in the sun again to reset.

So… What IS Activated Charcoal?

Activated charcoal is made from coconut shells, peat, olive pits, coal, bamboo, and a few other options. It’s processed at really high temperatures, which change the internal structure, reducing the size of its pores and making it more absorbent/porous than regular charcoal. This is WAY different than charcoal briquettes that are used on a grill (those contain toxic chemicals and also haven’t been processed at high temperatures). Because activated charcoal is so porous, it traps toxins and chemicals.

Ways to Use Activated Charcoal Bags:

In the fridge or freezer to absorb food odors

In your kids’ rooms to absorb urine or smelly teen odor

-In your car to absorb stale smells

-In your kitchen to absorb strong cooking odors

-In your gym bag or even your tennis shoes

Anywhere to absorb pet urine scents (one Amazon review even said it absorbed a dead cat’s smell within a couple hours!)

-Any other place that smells bad – shoe storage, basements, even places with old smoke smells. Their Amazon reviews blow me away!

The design is also super discreet and sophisticated – I love the gray linen fabric.

As moms, I can pretty much guarantee that every single one of us has nasty smells somewhere that we wish would go away. Click here to check out Basic Concepts’ Bamboo Charcoal Bags on Amazon.
